The St. Petersburg artist, Alexey Nikolaevich Gostintsev, was born in 1950 in Leningrad. His direction of work was determined after he met V. V. Sterligov in 1969, an artist who belonged to the circle of K. S. Malevich. Since the early 1960s, Sterligov had informal classes in his studio where he passed on to young artists the ideas and principles of abstract art that were discovered by the avant-garde. Just like other artists from the Sterligov group, A.N. Gostintcev develops the traditions of Russian classical avant-garde art, uses abstract language in visual form, and finds new techniques and materials for his work. Rustam Khalfin communicated closely and was close friends with many Sterligov artists from St. Petersburg, including Alexey Gostintsev.
In 2018, Alexey's works took part in the exhibition "V. Sterligov's School: St. Petersburg - Almaty", which was held at the Kazarian Art Center.
